Office Deployment and Development Conference 2000 Presentations

Sue Mosher presented these two sessions at the ODDC in London, May 2000:

Developing Applications with Microsoft Outlook

This session provides the basics for creating useful forms with Microsoft Outlook. It demonstrates the evolution of a vacation request from a simple vacation request form with voting buttons and new code ...

... to a form that creates an appointment for an approved vacation in a public Vacations folder and sends a matching appointment back to the user for their calendar ...

... to an Outlook 2000 form that automatically addresses the request to the user's manager and uses the Outlook View Control to display the user's vacations when the request is being composed and the public Vacations folder when the manager is deciding whether to approve the request.

Building Collaborative Applications with Microsoft Outlook and Exchange

This session reviews the collaboration tools for designing Outlook+Exchange Server applications and demonstrates a sample application that combines contacts and appointments with multiple levels of access. Among the techniques it demonstrates are:
  • How to create an appointment directly in another user's Calendar folder
  • How to link an appointment in a public folder with an appointment in a user's Calendar folder and update the mailbox copy when the public copy is changed
  • How to use a server script to generate a daily digest of a public folder
  • How to add a Team Folders interface to an existing application

Download slides, sample forms and code, sample folders and white paper describing the application. (980kb)
